Father’s Day

Fabricating a one-of-a-Kind

Growing up where I came from, you couldn’t find a person that was without a form of cutlery on their person. Knives were truthfully not even something that was seen as a self-defense tool, as it was a functional tool to get through the day. We used these to open packages, bags of seed to plant, minerals for cattle, ammonia nitrate to spread out over your soil to help increase your nutrient level just before a Florida rain.

Growing up where I did, is in essence a complete contradiction to the narrative that is showcased into todays media. People from the rural country are not about guns, knives, and rebels. Its about community, family, tradition. That isn’t to say there isn’t some crazy folks in this world. For some of us, we know them by name. That is not to say that a broad stroke of a brush can be applied to summarize a group of people based upon up-bringing, background, or even color for that matter.

This Father’s day I chose to do something special for the Father in my life that taught me not only how to live off the land, but also how to construct some of the greatest pieces of art out of responsibly sourced product from the land.

As such, I located one of the most beautiful pieces of steel that I could find, Damascus Steel, and married it with equally beautiful Hickory to construct a handle.

The Case for this fine piece was constructed out of available Poplar and Birch
