CUSTOM Zulu Short Spear
To honor a very special individual, a very unique Zulu Short Spear was fabricated.
This build started with the idea from a colleague and from there turned into one of the most unique and complex pieces to come out of the shop.
The main spear shaft was constructed from a composite of South African Sapele & Georgia White Oak.
The process itself was quite daunting because this was a prototype model that I had no idea how I was going to pull it all off. I wanted a composite build, however I wanted it to be extremely solid. Using wood pins and glue was the only way to go. Getting everything in place and not having transition lines or the pins show through was just one of many of the challenges.
The presentation of the gift took the honored individual by complete surprise. The shock and awe that came from it, was certainly the result I was looking for.
